The Beauty Of Insurance Renewals (Or NOT)

We’ve all been there. The insurance renewal increase costs that simply boil the blood for no reason at all. Regardless of how good you’ve been.

The reason I’ve decided to have a little rant here, is that I’m currently up for 2 different insurance changes.

Firstly, my car renewal has come in at a nasty increase.

I can understand increases. I can understand inflation etc. But I cannot understand clear and obvious theft!

I turn 46 in not too many weeks, and at the time of writing this, I have full no claims. I live in a respectable village and have no penalties on my license.

It’s a modern car with all the anti-theft antics you could possibly imagine.

And then the price jumps. Not by 10’s.

By 100’s!

I did the obligatory phone call and kicked off in my usual calm and pleasant way, and simply stated I would be leaving when the policy ends in a couple of weeks. But I then realised I wasn’t happy having to do this and took it to a complaint.

I documented everything back to the “customer service” team and stated the facts.

These facts included what I have mentioned already on here, but also that the insurance increase wasn’t a percent or two. But actually, just over 32%!!!!

That is quite simply disgusting. And nothing at all can justify that. Especially when I can go online and lower it immediately using the comparison sites and get it lower than I’m currently paying, let alone their stupid renewal.

What response did I get? Robotic. That’s simply the only way I can describe it. Textbook robotic automation copied and pasted into an email by a human just doing their job.

Thanks for that Aviva. Well done for losing another customer due to stupidity that could have been dealt with in a human manner.

Then number 2 insurance fraud happened.

I suddenly remembered I needed to change my contents insurance address as I hadn’t done so since moving.

The Tesco Bank insurance website didn’t work properly so I had to get on the phone and run through it with them.

To be fair to the guy I was talking to, he was helpful and efficient and stated the following:

“I’ll waver the admin fee for the address change as you’d tried to do it online, but our site clearly isn’t working properly”

Then he started to baffle me with different numbers left right and centre. I politely stopped him and asked him the simple fact. What is my current amount per month? And what is the new amount per month?

Guess what…

More number baffling crap air vomiting from his mouth.

I pushed back and firmly asked for my numbers. Plain and simple please.

£6 something per month. Will now be £15 something per month…….

Can you see where I’m going with this?

Yep…My blood boiled over…

That’s over 150% increase!

How?

Oh it’s because of claims in your area.

Is it?

Yeah, someone down the road must be claiming etc.

What??

Now, again I will stress. I’ve moved from a property in the heart of a city.

To a lovely quiet and very safe village surrounded by official neighbourhood watchers.

A full alarm system which I didn’t have in the last place. And we don’t really leave the bloody house because we’re both home workers.

He then kept saying that things like accidental damage claims can make a difference etc.

I pushed back and actually did use the line “How the hell does Bob 5 doors down, pouring red wine on his carpet, mean I have to pay for his drunkenness”??

No real explanation later and I’m cancelling my policy after the robotic “computer says no” rubbish these people are made to lie to us with.

How kind of them to cancel my policy and not charge me a cancellation fee!

I then went on the comparison sites…

At least 10 different policies by 10 different companies. All around the £6 per month that I’m currently paying.

Including my current insurer, Tesco Bank….

I could end this here with that little nugget of insanity. But I just want to state this.

Insurance in the UK is a shambles and full of lies.

Someone needs to step in and stop the scamming activity that is clearly taking place. If it’s not a scam, why can I re-insure immediately back at my original price?

Enjoy your next renewal.

And DO NOT stand for their lies.
