For anyone of a similar age to me (mid-forties), and older, and younger, the TV show “Friends” will be forever in your hearts as something that simply brings us all together.
Yes, I’m a bloke. Yes, a lot of blokes will state it’s a “girls” show. No. It really isn’t. Because I know very few people that haven’t sat and laughed loudly at that show. Or, just left it on in the background because it’s one of the easiest things to relate to regardless of age or gender. Or location for that matter.
Tonight, we have just sat and watched the 2021 Friends reunion show hosted by James Cordon.
I was a little sceptical before this came on as I didn’t want it to ruin my memories of the show.
It didn’t. In fact, I have just sat for 2 hours and laughed like I haven’t laughed in a very long time. Consistently. Loudly. Happily.
A quick note here. I am going to reference them by their on-screen names. This is not out of any disrespect to the real people, but more for the fact that it’s who we all know and love.
Part of me was saddened by the fact only Joey and Phoebe seem to have let themselves get older by just being older! And I honestly thought Chandler was incredibly brave to appear on this knowing what he has gone through and struggled with for years. Very humbling!
Before I get slated for this, I’m not actually being horrible here. I’m simply stating the obvious and what, quite honestly, most of you thought.
It’s a crying shame that people (not just famous) can’t allow themselves to get older without just being older.
Trying to hide the fact that you have lines, or a little weight is bonkers unless you’re doing it naturally. (ie. Just do some exercise and keep the weight sensible)
Or…
Do what Joey and Phoebe have done. Let it happen. Because they look great!
Now, moving past this, my sadness on this quickly passed.
Between the show ending in 2004, and this day of filming, 17 years later, the cast have all been in one room together just once.
What was very obvious was that they all love each other still to this day. And that they were simply one of the best casts of any shows of all time. (Not to belittle shows such as The Big Bang Theory)
Yes, it’s always sad when something comes to an end like that, but the writers did a very good job at ending it and keeping it ended.
Watching the cast go through old lines, on old sets, re-living scenes, all while crying and laughing, was one of the greatest TV evenings I’ve had in years.
We laughed so much, I cried. (From laughing)
And it simply inspired me to write this review on it all in the hope I can drive at least one of you to watch it and feel the emotions I felt.
2 hours. It’s not a great deal of our lives. But it was 2 hours I am happy to have spent in this way.
Do I hope they do this again? No. It doesn’t need to be done again. Because they did such a good job of it this time around.
